US economy ‘is on right path’, offshore account holders told

Offshore account holders have been advised that while the US economy is on the right path to come out of the worst economic situation since the Great Depression, it still needs help.

Speaking at a conference in Virginia, chairwoman of the White House Council of Economic Advisers Christina Romer said the federal government still needs to prevent a further crisis in the jobs market, Reuters reports.

"The economy is unquestionably on the right trajectory. But, while the economy is recovering, it has not yet recovered," she commented.

Ms Romer added that instead of withdrawing support, the government should provide assistance for the private sector in order to give the economy a boost.

Last month, Richmond Federal Reserve president Jeffrey Lacker predicted moderate growth in the US economy as consumer confidence increases and said the labor market appears to be recovering slightly after bottoming out last year.

Some 162,000 new jobs were created in the US in March.
