A Meaningful Dollar Rally Is Now Due – And It Will Have Little To Do With Respect

The U.S. dollar is doing a fair impression of the late Rodney Dangerfield – it gets no respect. But the buck doesn’t need respect to rally hard in the wake of a major squeeze…

A reader writes,

I never thought that you “confused the natures of Planet Real and Planet Paper.” You have always seemed positive that the King does not wear clothes, despite the calls for their [existence]. Stock Market Falls Sharply As Corporate Titans State The Obvious

Why is the market breaking down today?

A number of analysts are pointing to comments by corporate titans, Wilbur Ross, George Soros, and bank analyst Mike Mayo.

US Savings Rate Goes Up, But Personal Income Has Fallen Dramatically

In September, Personal Income fell very slightly, by less that 0.1% from August, as did Disposable Personal Income (or DPI, a.k.a. “after tax income”).

However, with the “Cash for Clunkers” program over, Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE, or consumer spending) fell by $47.2 billion from August or 0.5%, after increasing 1.4% from July to August. If one strips out inflation, real DPI fell 0.1% following a 0.2% decline in August, while real PCE was down 0.6% following a 1.0% rise in … [visit site to read more]

Bullish Investors Sprinkle Optimistic Spread Trades On Alcon

ACL – Alcon, Inc. – Medical supplies producer, Alcon, attracted long-term bullish option traders to the May 2010 contract. Shares slipped slightly lower by 0.5% to $144.02 by noontime (EDT). It looks as though one investor financed the purchase of a call spread by selling put options. The three-legged trade involved the sale of 4,200 puts at the May 120 strike for about 4.20 apiece. Next, the investor purchased the same number of call options at the May 155 strike for 7.25 each, spread … [visit site to read more]
